Oldest Known Flying ‘Car’ up for the auction at Red Baron’s Antiques


It has been long since people had dreamt of a car that could fly like a plane. Making this dream come true, Frank Skroback built a flying car in 1935 which is the oldest known flying ‘Car’ till the date.

It has been long since people had dreamt of a car that could fly like a plane. Making this dream come true, Frank Skroback built a flying car in 1935 which is the oldest known flying ‘Car’ till the date.


The machine that doesn’t look like a car or plane either is up for the auction at Red Baron’s Antiques (March 13-14) at Atlanta, US. Other then the flying machine, the winning bidder will also possess the extensive documentation, including the 1921 patent on the design and correspondence demonstrating Frank’s attempt to sell his vehicle.



There is no firm proof whether this flying machine ever took off the ground, but it’s six small wings with 7-foot span attached to it and the plane is 21 feet long. The wing of this flying car seems short to provide it the lift and without substantial vertical control, controlling this flight would be difficult task in the air.


Also, there is no info about its engine, but it can be expected that if the wings lift the stubby fuselage off the ground, then this flying car has a very powerful engine than it appears.
