Kia has moved upmarket and thoroughly rejuvenated its lineup; luxury sedans like the Cadenza and the K900 speak volumes about the brand's seemingly unlimited ambition. But one segment has been gravely neglected: the family van. Flanked by new and ambitious products, the Sedona minivan has soldiered on almost unchanged since its debut at the 2005 Chicago auto show. Starting at $26,795, it is still on sale.
At the New York auto show later this month, Kia will finally launch a new, yet-to-be-named people mover that should render the Sedona obsolete almost immediately. The teaser shot provided today reveals a sporty-looking MPV with Kia's trademark "tigernose" grille, a relatively low roofline, and a rising beltline.

Kia's MPV features sliding rear doors, and it will offer room for eight passengers. No word yet on engine and transmission choices, but our interest is piqued as Kia promises that "this global debut will challenge the segment." More technical details will be shared in the upcoming weeks. Oh, the suspense!
