BMW Considers an M7 Performance Vehicle

BMW might add a performance M-version of its flagship sedan to its lineup, according to Friedrich Nitschke, president of BMW's M division, and Car and Driver. It would compete with the likes of the Audi S8 and the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. During a Q&A session with Nitschke, Car and Driver touched on a range of topics, including the peculiarity of U.S. performance drivers' preference of manual transmission models over automatic transmissions. In Europe, the opposite is true, according to Nitschke. Nitschke said he doesn't see M performance variants coming to BMW's new i electric car brand. He also said the company has the technical know-how to bring a diesel M 5 Series that would pass U.S. emissions standards, as well as the capacity to build a unique mid-engine performance car, exclusive to the M brand. However, neither of the vehicles are on the table as of yet. Read more of the interview over at Car and Driver.
