2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Priced from $106,375, Goes on Sale in May

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-class

Pricing for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 will start at $106,375 before buyers check any options boxes. For the price, however, you get a fairly well-equipped folding-hardtop convertible. The list of standard stuff includes 12-way power heated seats, a panorama sunroof built into the folding roof, Benz's COMAND infotainment system with navigation, a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, and more. Here's the breakdown of a few of the initial stand-alone options and packages available:

  • Premium 1 package ($4900): Adds a backup camera, active parking assist, ventilated seats, and adaptive seat cushions.
  • Driver Assistance package ($2950): Adaptive cruise control with Pre-Safe collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring system, and lane-keeping assist.
  • Sport Wheel package ($2000): Sport brake system, 19-inch five-spoke AMG wheels.
  • Stand-alone options include: analog dashboard clock ($250); wood and leather steering wheel ($590); Active Body Control adaptive suspension ($4090); "Magic Sky Control" electrochromic sunroof glass ($2500); Bang & Olufsen surround sound audio system ($6400); 19-inch split-five-spoke wheels ($500).

Go all in on the above items, and you're looking at an SL550 that tops $130,000. Of course, skip all the frills and you've still got the SL550's 429-hp, twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V-8. Unfortunately, you'll also be left with the SL's ungainly styling. The new SL550 hits dealerships in May, followed by the meaner, 530-hp  SL63 AMG later in the year.
